Getting on the Internet could not be any easier with WordPress. I have been working with WordPress on a couple of projects now and I am amazed how quickly I can produce a website will content management in little over an hour.

You can download already built templates or themes from a huge library from WordPress Themes, there is massive range of different designs which some themes are OK and some are really good like this theme from Digital Nature. If you dont mind sharnifg a template with hundreds of other people you can head over to WordPress Themes or for something a little different try Woo Themes for a more premium feel to your themes.

With WordPress you can download plugins such as twitter widgets, facebook fan page buttons, flickr tag galleries and lots more to lots of other things. WordPress isnt just a blogging software its a complete content management system built with the latest web technology.

I can see why the search engines love WordPress websites, with its clean URL permalinks which also can be customised from Numeric, Category or whichever format you would like. For example a normal website link would be http://www.silvermarbles.co.uk/portfolio?=freedom_flying.php where as WordPress can rewrite the URL to look like http://www.silvermarbles.co.uk/portfolio/freedom-flying – far more cleaner and nicer looking!

WordPress is great but its not the bee all and end all to the web creation side of things. It does have disadvantages when its comes to building eccomerce websites which may require extra customisation or extra features. If you cant find a plugin you have to build a plugin. So web designer’s aren’t going to be put out of job just yet.
